Multimedia Bookreading by Oliver Klaassen
In recent years, not only anti-genderism and -feminism, but also alarming appropriation efforts of discursively effective social movements such as the Querdenker_Innen have strongly increased in the course of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, the commercialization, commodified reification, dilution, and inflationary use of the term queer has continued to advance in both everyday life and academia. The authors of the anthology „QUEERULIEREN: Störmomente in Kunst, Medien und Wissenschaft“ take all of these developments as an opportunity to embark on an interdisciplinary and multidimensional tour of exploration of queerulating, i.e. normativity-, binarism-, and neoliberalism-critical moments of disturbance in art, (audio-)visual cultures, and science. The diversity of contributions leaves no doubt about one fact: the added value of queerulating lies in the deconstruction, destabilization and questioning of powerful and normative structures, in the joy of persistently spoiling fun and, last but not least, in the constant examination and reorientation of one‘s own thinking and acting. You can look forward to a multimedia and interactive book presentation, in which not only selected passages of the text will be read aloud, but also short films will be screened by, among others, the Drag King Boris Gay, which will activate your laughing muscles. Because queer literature is only successful in a collective and is the most fun together, you can look forward to one or two participatory activities.
